Relationship Psychotherapy in East Oxford
Fully Accredited UKCP Psychotherapist | Specialist Relationship & Psychosexual Therapist
When partners build a life together, the way they interact takes on a life of its own. Subtle dynamics form beneath the surface of daily life. Even in strong, committed relationships, these unconscious patterns can begin to feel rigid, making it difficult to understand one another or find a way through periods of intense conflict, change, or emotional distance.
Whether you are navigating long-standing friction or facing an acute crisis where the future of the relationship feels uncertain, therapy offers a quiet, neutral space to step back from the immediacy of distress and examine what is happening between you with curiosity and care—helping partners find relief from recurring conflict by understanding what sits beneath it.
I offer in-person relational therapy from my practice in East Oxford for couples and polycules.
How I Work
When a relationship is in distress, partners are often caught in a repeating cycle where each person's defensive reaction inadvertently escalates the other's deepest anxiety. This can leave you feeling stuck in the same argument, exhausted, or wondering if you are too far gone to reconnect.
My focus is on making this hidden cycle visible. By tracing immediate arguments back to the underlying structure of the relationship, we can understand how these habits developed—and how you can begin to step out of them together.
What We Explore
Our work considers the full picture of your life together:
Communication & Unspoken Dynamics: How feelings, conflicts, and care are expressed or held back beneath the surface.
Intimacy & Physical Connection: How emotional trust, physical presence, and bodily connection inform your dynamic. Where difficulties center specifically on sexual function, physical pain, or bodily disconnection, my background includes specialized training in psychosexual therapy. You can read more about my dedicated Psychosexual Therapy work here.
Navigating Transitions & Crisis: How your dynamic adapts to major life shifts, betrayals, or periods of acute stress.
Understanding how these patterns operate allows you to move past reactive habits, regain a sense of joint agency, and decide how you want to move forward.
What to Expect & Practical Details
Beginning therapy together requires a degree of trust, particularly if one or both of you have not experienced therapy before. I keep the practical setup clear and predictable so you know what to expect from the outset.
The Initial Joint Consultation
We begin with a single 50-minute consultation attended together. This first session gives us space to talk through what has brought you to therapy, get a feel for how we work together, and determine if my practice is the right fit. There is no expectation or obligation to commit to further sessions at this stage.
Duration & Pace
Relational therapy looks different for everyone. Some partners seek a brief period of focused work to navigate a specific decision or crisis; others choose longer-term work to transform deep-seated patterns. We review progress naturally as the work unfolds, and the decision on how long to continue remains entirely yours.
Weekly Sessions at a Fixed Time
If we decide to work together, sessions take place strictly on a weekly basis at a dedicated, fixed time in my East Oxford consulting room. Having a consistent appointment each week provides practical stability:
Building Momentum: Weekly continuity allows us to address the root causes of conflict, rather than using our time simply to catch up on recent events.
A Structured Boundary: A set weekly time provides a reliable, contained space to bring difficult conversations into the room, helping to prevent those tensions from overwhelming your daily life at home.
Fees
Relational Therapy (Couples & Polycules): £122 per 50-minute session
Initial consultations are charged at the standard session rate of £122.
Clinical Background & Accreditation
My practice is built on rigorous academic study, specialist clinical training, and ongoing contribution to the field.
Tavistock Relationships (London): Two-year specialist postgraduate clinical training in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy.
University of Oxford: Master’s degree in Psychodynamic Practice, following four years of clinical training and research focusing on relational dynamics, unconscious processes, and psychological development.
Academic Teaching: Guest Lecturer at the University of Oxford, teaching psychodynamic theory and clinical practice.
Professional Accreditation: Fully Accredited Registered Member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work strictly within the UKCP Ethical Framework to guarantee professional containment, clinical supervision, and absolute confidentiality.
An Inclusive, Affirming Practice
My practice is fully affirming of all relationship structures, sexualities, and gender identities. I work with married and cohabiting couples, polyamorous relationships, and polycules, as well as LGBTQIA+ individuals and partners.
As part of this commitment, I strive to maintain an actively anti-racist practice—recognizing how systemic oppression, cultural marginalization, and racialized trauma shape our sense of safety, identity, and bodily experience within relationships.
